Mud, Sweat and Beers

The mud, sweat and beers project tries to establish the link between responsible drinking and play.  Looking into today culture of the public house I arrived to the question “Can value be added back into the drinking culture to lower consumption levels?” I recognized there was this recurring issue in the media about binge drinking and I started to look into why.

I made the observation that alcohol was being devalued in the sense that the pubs and breweries would promote these value for money offers at the expense of the value of the pub environment, by promoting larger volumes over smaller time, the experience was being lost.

So with wanting to add value back into drinking I came up with the concept of making play more accessible by incorporating play with the pint glass. The pint glass and beer mats are items that are the most accessible to everyone. The shape of the pint glass references a trophy, but also has a little recess in the base for a coin to slot in to. The pint can also fit into different sporting genres, through the printed graphics on the front of the pint glass

So for initial concept pint glass the game is football, the goal keeper is green like the generic Subbuteo goal keeper. The graphics are referenced from that of old arcade football video games so that the consumer can relate to it as a game.

The beer mat will have two football teams printed on to the front and on the reverse. These are changeable parts of the project that will give the pint glass a longer life, as they can be reprinted to show the different teams that are to be broadcast on Sky Sports.  For example Arsenal vs. Barcelona Champions League final.

Each punter can either plays on there own, play with a friend or play in a group. There are no rules suggested as this encourages the punter to explore and create their own game. People could even collect the mats like football match programs to say they were at that viewing of the game, sort of like the where was you when England beat Germany.
