Reflexive Mechanics
Our sense of identity is held captive by the judgments of those we live among.
Alain De Botton (2004)
Against who or what do we evaluate ourselves?
With fashion trends changing at an increasing rate and an abundance of products and services available for body modification, all supported by media and TV makeover programs, how then does an individual reconcile their changing public image with an individual sense of self?
The reflexive mechanics project explores the context of grooming as a process in which a publicly presented self is cultivated, the aim is to compose grooming equipment that questions, exposes or contrasts those points of reference we use to evaluate ourselves, while remaining functional as a grooming tool.
The voice as an element of self-image remains often unnoticed, yet constitutes a significant element of self-presentation.
The Voice Mirror reflects not only ones image but also the voice that goes with it, enabling you to initially identify with your voice and if desired to cultivate a particular style of elocution.
The height measure shows your height according to the height of celebrities, so no matter how short you consider yourself to be, you will always be taller than someone great.
