Play is the main form of children’s activity, where the toy serves the significant role of a teaching tool, giving children possibility to learn in the most efficient and productive way about their world, themselves and others.
My project aims at 3+year olds and answers to a question “how to promote pro-social behaviour and encourage emotional and intellectual development among children?”
Animal Puzzles
As 3-4 year olds still really don’t understand things like height, size and shape there is need for effective practice in play and discussions with demonstrating the language for shape (e.g. box shape), measures (e.g. longer, shorter), positions (e.g. on, in, inside) and other qualities (e.g. heavy, light, colourful, smooth).
Animal Puzzles contains of 5 “animal families” with three representatives in each one. They differ in height (thickness of the puzzles) and colour, whereas what they have in common is the shape (A) and either the sound (B) they make or the weight (C).
Children will learn by comparing all those attributes, since matching elements will have to correspond with each other through the correct size, height, weight, colour and sound.
