My final project research focuses on the subversion of adaptability as a comment on the tendency for products to be designed with an over capacity of function (often in the form of surplus technology) for problems that seldom exist in the real world.  In my opinion this “over capacity of function” has the potential to overwhelm the user and can subsequently lead to dislocation between the individual and the objects that surround them.
Current work conveys this notion of excess capacity of function through a range of chairs that incorporate an element futile adaptability as an analogy of surplus technology.
